1. Free annual file disclosure
PROFID compiles and maintains files about employment history for consumers nationwide. Federal law therefore gives you the right to a free copy of your PROFID file once in any 12-month period. PROFID provides it within 15 days after receiving your request and verifying your identity.
To request your file, call +1 313 327 3970, use the form on this page, email support@theprofid.com, or write to EPASS Inc. / PROFID, Attn: File Disclosure Requests, 1902 Wright Place, Suite 200, Carlsbad, CA 92008. You do not need to use our form or open an account. Tell us if you need help or are acting through an authorized representative.
2. What you will receive
After verifying your identity, we provide a clear disclosure of the information in your file at the time of your request. This includes:
- All information in your file that the law requires us to disclose.
- The sources of that information, subject to the limited legal exception for certain sources used only for investigative consumer reports.
- Everyone who received a report about you during the preceding two years for employment purposes and the preceding year for other purposes, with addresses and telephone numbers on request. For California consumers, the recipient history covers the preceding three years.
- An explanation of any codes and the summaries of rights required with the disclosure.
Scores and summaries. If an employer received a score, flag, or summary generated from your report under rules the employer selected, your file disclosure includes that score or summary, the date it was generated, and the report information it was based on. A score is not an employment decision and does not replace the employer’s own review.
You may ask us to leave out the first five digits of your Social Security number from the disclosure. If we cannot locate a file after reasonable identity and matching checks, we will tell you.
3. How we verify your identity
We match the information you give us against the file we hold. After you send a request, we ask you, through a secure channel, for the information needed to match your file: usually your full name, date of birth, current address, and the last four digits of your Social Security number, or your report reference number.
If we cannot match your file from that information, we will send you a secure, one-time upload link where you can provide a copy of a government-issued ID or another document that confirms your identity. You may cover everything on the ID except your name, date of birth, address, and photo. You may also mail a copy to the address above. A selfie or facial comparison is never required for a file request.
Please do not send your full Social Security number, identity documents, or report details by ordinary email. If you do, we will ask you to resend them through the secure link.
4. Fees
Your file disclosure is free:
- once in any 12-month period;
- if you ask within 60 days after receiving an adverse action notice based on information from PROFID;
- once in any 12-month period, if you certify in writing that you are unemployed and intend to apply for work within 60 days, that you receive public welfare assistance, or that you believe your file contains inaccurate information because of fraud;
- whenever state law requires a free disclosure.
An additional copy beyond these free disclosures costs $5.00. This amount is at or below the federal maximum and the state limits that apply to PROFID; where California law limits a charge to the actual cost of copying, we charge no more than that cost. We tell you about the charge before providing a charged copy. Disputes, reinvestigations, corrected reports, and notices required by law are always free.
Free disclosures may also be required under state law. PROFID does not place fraud alerts or security freezes; those are handled by the three nationwide credit bureaus. The search fees described on our Fees page are court, DMV, and data access fees on background checks. They are never charged for a copy of your file or for a dispute.
5. Timing and delivery
We send your file disclosure within 15 days after we receive your request and verify your identity. If your file includes a California credit report and you ask for a mailed copy, we mail it within five business days.
You choose secure online delivery (a time-limited link that requires verification) or a paper copy by first-class mail to the address we verified. In California, you may also ask for delivery by certified mail. We do not send file disclosures as ordinary email attachments.
6. Additional California access rights
After providing proper identification, California consumers may inspect their file in person, request copies by certified mail to a specified addressee through a written request, or request a telephone summary after submitting a written request with proper identification. Any permitted telephone toll charge must be prepaid by you or charged directly to you.
In-person inspection is by appointment during normal business hours at our designated location in Carlsbad, California. Email support@theprofid.com or call +1 313 327 3970at least five business days in advance so that trained staff can be available to explain the information. You may bring one person of your choice, who must provide reasonable identification; we may ask for your written permission to discuss the file in that person’s presence. You are entitled to a written explanation of any coded information. Read the California Privacy Notice for related rights.
7. Found an error?
If information is inaccurate or incomplete, visit Dispute a Report or contact us. Reinvestigation is free. You do not have to request your file before disputing information.
8. Your rights
Read A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (official CFPB notice, PDF) and our FCRA Notices page. We provide the required summary with your file disclosure; this link does not replace delivery. Requesting your file does not waive any legal right. Questions about this process, or a complaint, can be sent to support@theprofid.com. You may also submit a complaint to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau at consumerfinance.gov/complaint.
